Understanding the Continuum Concept
Text Interview with  Jean Liedloff
According to Jean Liedloff, the continuum concept is the idea that in order to achieve optimal physical, mental and emotional development, human beings — especially babies — require the kind of experience to which our species adapted during the long process of our evolution. For an infant, these include such experiences as…

    * constant physical contact with his mother (or another familiar caregiver as needed) from birth;
* sleeping in his parents’ bed, in constant physical contact, until he leaves of his own volition (often about two years);
* breastfeeding “on cue” — nursing in response to his own body’s signals;
* being constantly carried in arms or otherwise in contact with someone, usually his mother, and allowed to observe (or nurse, or sleep) while the person carrying him goes about his or her business — until the infant begins creeping, then crawling on his own impulse, usually at six to eight months;
* having caregivers immediately respond to his signals (squirming, crying, etc.), without judgment, displeasure, or invalidation of his needs, yet showing no undue concern nor making him the constant center of attention;
* sensing (and fulfilling) his elders’ expectations that he is innately social and cooperative and has strong self-preservation instincts, and that he is welcome and worthy.

In contrast, a baby subjected to modern Western childbirth and child-care practices often experiences…

    * traumatic separation from his mother at birth due to medical intervention and placement in maternity wards, in physical isolation except for the sound of other crying newborns, with the majority of male babies further traumatized by medically unnecessary circumcision surgery;
* at home, sleeping alone and isolated, often after “crying himself to sleep”;
* scheduled feeding, with his natural nursing impulses often ignored or “pacified”;
* being excluded and separated from normal adult activities, relegated for hours on end to a nursery, crib or playpen where he is inadequately stimulated by toys and other inanimate objects;
* caregivers often ignoring, discouraging, belittling or even punishing him when he cries or otherwise signals his needs; or else responding with excessive concern and anxiety, making him the center of attention;
* sensing (and conforming to) his caregivers’ expectations that he is incapable of self-preservation, is innately antisocial, and cannot learn correct behavior without strict controls, threats and a variety of manipulative “parenting techniques” that undermine his exquisitely evolved learning process.

Evolution has not prepared the human infant for this kind of experience. He cannot comprehend why his desperate cries for the fulfillment of his innate expectations go unanswered, and he develops a sense of wrongness and shame about himself and his desires. If, however, his continuum expectations are fulfilled — precisely at first, with more variation possible as he matures — he will exhibit a natural state of self-assuredness, well-being and joy. Infants whose continuum needs are fulfilled during the early, in-arms phase grow up to have greater self-esteem and become more independent than those whose cries go unanswered for fear of “spoiling” them or making them too dependent.

Here are some excerpts from the book which define the continuum concept:

    …It is no secret that the “experts” have not discovered how to live satisfactorily, but the more they fail, the more they attempt to bring the problems under the sole influence of reason and disallow what reason cannot understand or control.

    We are now fairly brought to heel by the intellect; our inherent sense of what is good for us has been undermined to the point where we are barely aware of its working and cannot tell an original impulse from a distorted one.

    …[Determining what is good for us] has for many millions of years been managed by the infinitely more refined and knowledgeable areas of the mind called instinct. … [The] unconscious can make any number of observations, calculations, syntheses, and executions simultaneously and correctly.

    …What is meant here by “correct” is that which is appropriate to the ancient continuum of our species inasmuch as it is suited to the tendencies and expectations with which we have evolved. Expectation, in this sense, is founded as deeply in man as his very design. His lungs not only have, but can be said to be, an expectation of air, his eyes are an expectation of light… [etc.]

    …The human continuum can also be defined as the sequence of experience which corresponds to the expectations and tendencies of the human species in an environment consistent with that in which those expectations and tendencies were formed. It includes appropriate behavior in, and treatment by, other people as part of that environment.

    The continuum of an individual is whole, yet forms part of the continuum of his family, which in turn is part of his clan’s, community’s, and species’ continua, just as the continuum of the human species forms part of that of all life.

    …Resistance to change, no way in conflict with the tendency to evolve, is an indispensable force in keeping any system stable.

    What interrupted our own innate resistance to change a few thousand years ago we can only guess. The important thing is to understand the significance of evolution versus (unevolved) change. … [The latter] replaces what is complex and adapted with what is simpler and less adapted.

    There is no essential difference between purely instinctive behavior, with its expectations and tendencies, and our equally instinctive expectation of a suitable culture, one in which we can develop our tendencies and fulfill our expectations, first, of precise treatment in infancy, and gradually of a (more flexible) kind of treatment and circumstance, and a range of requirements to which adaptation is ready, eager, and able to be made.

We are so000000 busted Sir. The Truthers are everywhere!

From the viewpoint of the webmaster for meetthetruthers.com the tragedy of the events of 911 was multidimensional.

There wasnt one “events of 9-11″ tragedy, there were multiple.

the most obvious and haunting is that 3000 people died for no good reason including many police and firemen who died in the line of duty confronting something so much beyond anything that any public servants in America have ever had to face.

the second is the first responders, who number the 10s of 1000s, many of whom have subsequently died and many of whom are disabled by respiratory ailments and other conditions which were avoidable if they had been properly equipped or told the truth about the health conditions of the air in the days and weeks following 911 at Ground Zero. I personally counseled, at Ground Zero, in late September 2001, a fireman who lost his entire station and who knew his days were numbered too because he had taken in a full respiratory system’s worth of highly toxic soot. What can you do for such a person? A hero, standing in front of you, who lost almost everything and is soon to lose the rest? His name was Paul. He spoke to me for nearly an hour and then told me that his brothers in the fire department had called him “the silent man”. He did go to the hospital shortly after and that was the last I heard of him.

Part of this tragedy is the way that our government has abandoned these American heroes, diverted funds which were allocated to the families of first responders who died and other atrocities committed by many beaurocrats.

Another tragedy is the loss of American rights and liberties in the name of “security”. While not achieving any improvement in security we have lost the goodness of our nation, and with it, its greatness.

How Peace Loving Is The 911 Truth Movement? Watch As The March Through San Francisco Is Voluntarily Brought Down To A Whisper As We Pass By A Live Concert In The Park! What Other Group Would See People And LOWER The Volume Out Of Respect?

The documents which restrained government usurpation of powers has been shredded leaving us a hair’s width away from martial law and a police state where a great republic once lived as a beacon for hope.

Another is the change of America from a country based on values and laws to one where torture, preemptive war and extraordinary rendition with surveillance of American citizens without warrant is part of the American scene and has tainted our reputation worldwide forever.

So you look at all of these unprecedented tragedies. what is the worst of it all? All of them and none of them. But from my own personal perspective, the biggest tragedy of 911 has been something spiritual.

In my stint as a volunteer at Ground Zero, amidst the darkness, horror and despair I saw the incredible and unprecedented, and amazingly inspirational outpouring of love and humanity which arrived there. There was so much food and “stuff” sent to Ground Zero from people all over the world that it took hundreds of volunteers (who also flooded Ground Zero) weeks of organizing to fill up the main hall of a large nearby church with all of it. Vigils were held in places as far away as Los Angeles, the United Kingdom and… Iran and people the world over were praying for the dead and for the heroes who were risking their lives and their health working on the pit for days without sleep and praying for the world in hopes that we might find a way to peace and love. What an incredible opportunity we all had to send the world into a beautiful new direction out of this baptism of fire, death and destruction.

And all of this was wasted and invalidated, torn to shreds and buried by the Bush administration, the mass media propagandists and the neoconservatives with their agenda which launched us into a faux, endless and unwinable war on terror and then on Afghanistan and then on Iraq. Bush and Cheney were riding their 90% approval ratings to suppress that outpouring of love and humanity and beat the drums to fire up the baser impulses for revenge and bloodlust.

THAT is, in the opinion of the webmaster, the biggest tragedy of the post 911 era.

Brian NY Meet The Truthers 2

[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rb05zkFLdVU[/youtube]

But that same spirit has found itself reborn in the 911 truth movement and that is why it is such a vital movement today and why it will ultimately win.

Because truth and love are unkillable… they can be suppressed but they always come back stronger. Heaven help anyone who seeks to shortcircuit such vibrant, passionate and enduring human impulses because they will recoil upon such a misguided soul.

Think about the Nazis opening up the Ark of the Covenant at the end of the first Indiana Jones movie and how they turn to molten flesh horribly when the light of truth is shed upon them. In a spiriual sense and the real world, the same mechanism holds true, it just takes a little bit longer. A more skilled executioner has never existed than the person themselves to themselves when they first seek out to harm their fellows and to sever lines on which love and truth flows.

So what is the 911 Truth movement and who are the truthers that are carrying forward this message of love and truth?

Far more important than the admiration, respect and esteem with which I view all of them is how they view themselves and our common quest and now you can discover the heart and soul of the 911 truth movement as shared by the members themselves.

Avoid group think, develop your thinking capabilities and natural intelligence.
Every culture and group and neighbourhood is sovereign and capable. This essay below outlines the real “multicultre” agenda. Regionalism
Independence, Decentralist and Separatist Movements | Very useful and fun and nurturing people’s action – for the people by the people

source

“The values of the weak prevail,” wrote Friedrich Nietzsche, “because the strong have taken them over as devices of leadership.” This brief and rather cryptic remark contains virtually all we need to know about why contemporary movements like multiculturalism, feminism, homosexualism, and anti-white racism are such powerful trends in modern American and other Western societies. It is easy enough to say that these movements are merely the revolt of Nietzsche’s Untermenschen and the natural consequence of mass democracy and civilizational decline. But what Nietzsche grasped that many modern conservatives, who dislike Nietzsche almost as much as Karl Marx and Hillary Clinton, don’t grasp is that what looks like decline, decadence, and decay to conservatives appears to the champions of such trends as progress and the birth of a new civilization. Because conservatives often fail to understand this, they perceive an apocalyptic collapse into anarchy and disorder where there is only an emerging structure of alternative power. The strong—those who like and want to use power—make use of unfashionable and forbidden ideas to gain power for themselves. Insofar as they are successful, the results do represent the decline of the kind of social and political order that conservatives are disposed to defend, but that does not mean that some sort of order is not at the same moment about to lurch forth from the apparent chaos.

Multiculturalism, for example, is less the result of ignorance and uninformed fantasies than a deliberate device by which the power-hungry can subvert a culture, whose moral codes deny them power, and build an alternative culture whose different moral codes yield power for themselves and none for their rivals. Much of the multiculturalist agenda that today rots the minds of children and students from daycare centers to the postgraduate level of education and research in fact originates in an important but little-known organization that calls itself the National Association for Multicultural Education, or NAME. Every year NAME holds a convention that is attended by more or less innocent but nonetheless power-hungry educators —not only teachers but also school administrators, superintendents, and education professors—as well as by an inner circle of what can be described only as the professional nucleus from which most of the nutty concepts of applied multiculturalism derive.

This past year the NAME folks convened in Albuquerque, New Mexico—a suitably obscure location for plotting the subversion of civilization—and wove their many-tangled webs. The 600 attendees spent their time in seminars with tides like “Power Consciousness: Understanding Educator Power in the Classroom,” “Building Race Unity,” “Racial Identity, Jungle Fever, and the Politics of Interracial Relations,” “Enhancing Diversity from Self to Others,” “Challenging Cultural and Educational Hegemony,” and “Educating for Equity and Excellence: A Challenge for Black Learners to Use Anger as a Catalyst.” There were at least two keynote addresses, one of which was delivered by Peter McLaren of the University of California at Los Angeles and entitled “Towards a Revolutionary Multiculturalism,” and another, by Ward Churchill of the University of Colorado at Boulder, called “Assimilation or Liberation? Crossroads for Multiculturalist Theory.” Essentially what NAME and similar organizations do is transmit multiculturalist doctrine to the general run of dim-witted school teachers, show them how to apply it in classrooms, defend it against angry parents and skeptical community leaders, and construct a national cadre through which their will to power may blossom.

In a statement of “NAME’s philosophy,” the organization tells us that “Xenophobia, discrimination, racism, classism, sexism, and homophobia are societal phenomena that are inconsistent with the principles of democracy and lead to the counterproductive reasoning that differences are deficiencies.” The premises of that statement, of course, are that the social institutions and identities—the “phobias” and “isms” listed—that define a particular order are (a) pathologies (hence the pseudo-psychiatric nomenclature) and (b) undemocratic. The implicit meaning of “democracy” in the statement is perhaps not what most Americans understand by the term, nor for that matter are most of the phobias and “isms” mentioned of the truly anti-social variety. The statement also says that NAME “rejects the view that diversity threatens the fabric of a society.

But in enunciating such disclaimers the organization, like the multiculturalist, wears two faces. One face tells us that American society is imbued with exclusionary and repressive pathologies and calls for the extirpation of the basic mechanisms by which the pathologies and repression are sustained; the means to extirpate them is the enhancement of “diversity” and the challenging of the dominant institutional categories that in effect define the social order. The other face denies any such goal and assures us that diversity is no threat at all. Pointing to this contradiction is important, not so much to expose and refute the muddled thinking of the multiculturalist mafia, but rather to make clear the tactics by which this mafia seeks power.

Multiculturalism is entirely correct in one of its major premises, that American society or any other kind of social order defines itself by the exclusion or subordination of some kinds of beliefs and behaviors, and therefore also the partial exclusion of those groups that are culturally wedded to them. A moment’s reflection shows that this is universally true, that the pagan Roman Empire or Christian medieval monarchies could not have been the kind of societies they were had they not excluded and repressed alternative beliefs and groups that did not share their identity. In the United States, where Americans have historically boasted of their tolerance and openness, the processes of exclusion and repression have generally been lacking in the formal apparatus of the state, and the absence of state action against social deviance has enticed many Americans into believing that those processes don’t exist, that America is a unique and exceptional society that defines itself by its tolerance and “openness.”

The fact is that American society, in part because of the weakness of its national state throughout its history, has relied on informal mechanisms of exclusion and repression to control deviations from its norms and to enforce its own identity, and those informal mechanisms are located primarily in what we think of as the “culture.” What the multiculturalists call “xenophobia” (the restriction of membership in American society to people who are culturally identifiable as Americans), “discrimination” (the exclusion of certain groups from certain kinds of participation because they do not adhere to an identifiable American identity), and all the rest of the “isms” they list are rooted not in the formal laws and Constitution of the American state but in the family, religion, communities, and schools.

The multiculturalists are entirely right: in order to challenge the mechanisms of exclusion and repression, overthrowing the state is not terribly important. What is important is to overthrow the culture. If it’s revolution and liberation from these “pathologies” and forms of repression you’re looking for, forget the Pentagon, the FBI, and the CIA. The real enemies with whom you have to grapple are the family meal, the Sunday school, the barber shop, and the commonly held beliefs that are reinforced and transmitted in those places.

Given this strategy and the correctness of its assumptions, the other face of multiculturalism acquires considerable importance as a tactic in carrying it out. The other face of multiculturalism insists that its challenge is not really radical or revolutionary at all but merely the fulfillment of “democracy” and what the NAME statement of philosophy elsewhere calls “the individual’s noble quest to define one’s relationship and responsibility to our global society.” In other words, the other face of multiculturalism mobilizes its revolutionary agenda by using commonly accepted words and icons of the contemporary dominant culture—”democracy” and the “global society,” not to mention the ubiquitous cliches that “America is a nation of immigrants” or the “first universal nation” or is “founded on a proposition” too abstract to permit real cultural content. It uses these words and icons in order to gain a sympathetic hearing from the commonplace centers of cultural power. This suggests that multiculturalism is as powerful as it is because the groundwork for its revolutionary attack on traditional American culture has been laid for it by the contemporary dominant culture and by the jargon that the dominant culture has popularized and with which it defines itself.

What we have in the United States today, then, are ostensibly three different cultures (or subcultures, if you will). One is the traditional patriarchal, family-centered, Euro-American culture that defines and enforces itself through largely informal mechanisms and with which most who call themselves conservatives identify to one degree or another. The second is the dominant culture of the imperial metropole—the dominant media, the major universities, and national politics. The third is the largely imaginary culture championed by the multiculturalists as the alternative to the first two (though they usually don’t distinguish between the first two in the delusion that the dominant culture is simply an extension of the traditional one).

In fact, multiculturalism is not distinct from the dominant culture. It survives because of the ascendancy of the dominant culture’s beliefs (embedded in such terms as “democracy” and the “global society”) and enforced behaviors; it flourishes because it is lodged in the educational and governmental bureaucracies of the dominant culture; it is legitimized by the propaganda apparatus of the dominant culture; and its agenda is simply an intensification and a continuation of the agenda of the dominant culture, which is the replacement of the traditional culture by itself. Under the Clinton administration in particular, the dominant culture has intensified its war on traditional culture, in explicit alliance with multiculturalist legions. Hence, the president’s fatuous “race initiative,” which tolerates only perspectives based on nonwhite resentment and white guilt; hence, the administration’s obsession with “hate crimes,” the “stealth agenda” of which, as Robert Knight of the Family Research Council recently noted, is to “elevate homosexuality [and for that matter, all other victim categories excluded and subordinated by traditional cultural identity to specially protected minority status.”

It is true that multiculturalism differs from the dominant culture in much of its rhetoric and some of its tactics. The “diversity” it is always chattering about is not characteristic of the dominant structures of the state, media, and the higher perches of the economy, but because the dominant culture does not define itself through the same exclusions and repressions that traditional culture does, “diversity” is no real threat to it. What the dominant culture excludes and represses is the traditional culture itself, and “diversity” is today the principal weapon by which it seeks to achieve that goal. By enforcing “diversity” as both an ideal and an actual practice through affirmative action, forced integration, mass immigration, and multiculturalism itself, the dominant culture undermines the defining mechanisms of the traditional culture and renders its continued functioning impossible. Since the dysfunctions in traditional culture that result often engender genuinely pathological behavior, that simply reinforces the image of traditional culture as inherently pathological.

Conventional conservatives are generally correct that the dysfunctions they perceive in American society are signs of decadence—the weakening of families, the erosion of communities, the inversion of sexual morality, and all the other chants in the litany of decline. These are symptoms of the decadence of traditional culture, whether induced by its enemies or not; but they are also signs of the triumph of the dominant culture, which regards them at worst as insignificant irritants or at best as indications of impending liberation from traditional restraints and the defeat of its adversary, traditional culture. The values of the weak, the weird, the excluded, and the repressed prevail because those who inhabit the dominant culture have taken them over as devices by which their own leadership is entrenched. Nietzsche understood this long before the tactic had a name and long before groups like NAME discovered how to use the tactic to entrench their own power.”

A TRUE AUSTRALIAN.

His name is Peter Andrews,he appeared on ‘Australian Story’
A man who for thirty years wasn’t seeking fame and glory,
All he wanted was recognition in the work he’d undertaken
To save the lifeblood of this land,which without,is godforsaken!

Is there anything more precious, as our history cruelly shows
Where repeated drought has always dealt the most savage crippling blows
And here was a man with answers, who was driven to chronic despair
Personal and financial, for daring to think outside the square.

His ideas, somewhat radical went against the status quo
The experts, the authorities, his theories they didn’t want to know,
But he was a man of passion, and quitting was never a thought
And for year after year with tenacity, all obstacles he fought.

Mad! he was called by those, who found it so alarming
When he had the affront to show them ‘natural sequence farming’
A system of slowing the water as it flows over the earth
That utilises to the utmost, the value of waters worth.

No crackpot ideas nor rain dances, or rods of divinity
A paradox though it well could be, that deals with salinity,
And restores earth to fertile soil, with all benefits related
And ‘pudding proof’ is on the farms where wetlands he has created.

Stubborn perseverance, albeit at great personal expense
Finally brought him backing, and support in his defence,
And hopefully the bureaucrats will follow it up, post haste
So this ‘true Ausralians’ vision, is not laid to barren waste!

And of national importance, is there anything more urgent
Than to make this fragile land, environmentally resurgent,
Here, a debt is owed to a man, who overcame despotic red tape
A resolute man, whose heart is at one, with Australian landscape!
