How to Save the World

Herb Mentor Radio

Beginnings
from Alto: FAB Radio began in 2003 when I was looking for educational and entertaining audio for myself and friends and the children. None of us had tv, nor did we feel the lack. Yet we were also finding it difficult to find time to read. We wanted good quality literature, interviews, radio shows, yet did not want our children to have to search, so began our collection in one place for our children’s edutainment! Over the years, more friends became interested, and so began my sprucing up of this site. Several sites and hosts later, it is at last becoming cohesive.

Mission

To make helpful audio available.

Our Sponsors

TingTong and his doggie

A Message from TingTong the Librarian
We are expanding our Library storage to accommodate more audios. If you would like to donate for more Storage, please do. Any amount is gratefully accepted.

Our Website Our Internet Presence
In the beginning, there was Alto. Alto did wonderful things with images and she built a basic website for her images. Alto is part of an extended family member of a homeschooling family. Alto has created websites.
Alto assesses and repairs the listening booths.
Alto reprograms anything that needs reprogramming.
Alto knows what to do with this site only up to a point – that is where others come in to perpetuate the site … David’s friends???

David has inspired us to make the site less cluttered, more functional and therefore more attractive.
David is a painter, a marvelous painter. David made his own site. David has designer/programmer friends who would like to have a look at the site to see if they can take it on and look after it.
David has gone “bush”, gone painting.
At the time, we neglected to remember to get ourselves introduced to David’s designer/programmer friends.

TingTong (and his doggie)
TingTong is the librarian. TingTong stacks and restacks the library shelves, pulling a trolley along beside him (his doggie is usually riding on the bottom shelf of the trolley). Ting Tong makes sure the listening booths are working properly.

Marion has sought and found an arrangement of audio.
Marion checks to see if their is a copyright for each audio. There usually is a copyright and copyright owner. Most do not require an acknowledgment, because most of the audios which FAB Radio uses are not known. the audios are not in the mainstream. the owners are not commercial or if commercial, are casually commercial, as FAB Radio is.

Marion remasters and checks and renames the audios if they need it. “They usually need it”, Marion says.
Marion is catalogues the library.

FAB Radio Staff Journal

Jan 2009

Marion: hells’s bells, i have had a huge week, my father coming out of hospital. goodnews! his health is increasing daily. in the middle of all this, the website technology …. eek! their was a loop in one of the scripts. the loop kept overloading our host’s servers. our hosts are https://www.webhostsaustralia.com.au and then the owner of WebHostsAustralia questioned the compatibility of the various scripts and websites under the umbrella of the frontdoor of the the several websites, one of which is FAB Radio. Alto was like any sane person, taking holidays and was unavailable. Fixing the loop was quite a bit more than excruciatingly painful. i cannot even tell you. i am still in shock. the 24/7 chatroom on our host’s support was fantastically brilliant! it works really well. we can communicate there really well and we need to able to do that, otherwise we would not be on the air! we are INTERDEPENDENT and we must play nicely.

Jan 2008
And, now for the benefit of friends unknown who also wish to access the audios, there is a new service: FAB Weekly. The Audio Archives are on holiday at the moment while our external hard drive get reinstated – you will find some live shows there though. Enjoy! Where known, the source of content is displayed, especially independent musicians, and FAB encourages you to buy if available.
